When You Don’t Know What to Do
I was working on my Bible study when the words of 2 Chronicles 20:12 popped out to me…”We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.” It’s been ringing in my ears and replaying in my mind as the words resonate with my heart.
Lately it seems like there are multiple situations that I’m unsure which way to go. Weighty decisions, future plans for our kids, wondering how to best use my time, energy and gifts. This verse from 2 Chronicle is a sweet reminder of where to steady our gaze. When we feel helpless and unsure, it’s our opportunity to lift our eyes heavenward and cry out to God for wisdom.
King Jehoshaphat of Judah was on the verge of an attack. The situation looked impossible. Defeat was inevitable. But Jehoshaphat raised his eyes from his circumstances to the God of heaven.
“Then Jehoshaphat was afraid and set his face to seek the Lord…For we are powerless against this great horde that is coming against us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.” 2 Chron. 20:3, 12
I love that we see the very real emotions of Jehoshaphat- an army was coming against him and he was scared. But we also see God’s grace in turning his eyes upward, reminding him of past deliverances.
What present circumstance in your life has you wallowing in fear or anxiety? Parenting wayward kids? A health crises? Financial strain? A difficult relationship?
Cry out to God with honesty and humility -“ We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you” and trust Him to carry you through.
