Even If…
Tucking Micah into bed, I praised him for how hard he played during his soccer game, blocking all the shots during his time in goal.
“I’m so proud of you- but even if you had let every shot into the goal…”
Micah finished my sentence, “I know, Mom, you would still love me just the same.”
He knew the rest of my thought. A smile spread across my face as I realized that all these years of repeating a similar phrase, the meaning was sinking in. All the “even ifs…”
Even if you spill the milk
Even if you lose the race
Even if you fail a class
Even if you sin against your brother or sister
I will still love you. Nothing can keep me from loving you because you’re my child, a precious gift from God. And isn’t this the same lesson we learn from our heavenly Father?
Even if we respond harshly to our kids
Even if we fail to keep our Bible reading plan
Even if we miss an opportunity to serve someone in need
God’s love for us isn’t based on our performance. It’s all a beautiful gift of grace- undeserved, unmerited favor. And we can rest in that fact. Our Father’s love for us will never change.
