Quarantine Thoughts

It seems unreal that one week ago life was normal. Kids had school, musical practice, sports and playdates. I went to the grocery and found plenty of toilet paper. But in a matter of days, everything came to a screeching halt.

Suddenly our crazy schedule is quiet. Everyone is together for lunch and dinner. I have no reason to complain- “We’re sooo busy!” It’s an odd kind of blessing- one in which I already see the good of slowing down and bringing families together. Yet it’s also a time that can evoke fear and panic.

The news reports are anything but encouraging. We watch the virus spread from our living room televisions as we pray for God’s mercy. We’re concerned for our parents, for those with compromised immune systems, for the ever-growing death toll.

My pastor husband deliberates how to best shepherd a flock that can’t meet together- my teenage son videoing his sermons from the family room. I tell my kids- “One day this will be in history books. And you’ll be telling your children about the great quarantine of 2020.”

In our uncertain times, we cling to the steadfast hope of a good and faithful God. He’s not surprised by the spread of Covid-19. He hears our prayers and answers them according to His perfect will. God is for us and not against us, and worthy of our trust.

“It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” Deuteronomy 31:8
