The Battle with Being "Good Enough"

Do you ever struggle with feeling like you’re not good enough?

Yesterday I woke up with the weight of the world on my shoulders. I fixed a cup of black tea and took my Bible out to our back porch. As I sat staring at black words on a white page, the thoughts kept rolling through my head…

“You’re not being a good enough mom.”
“You’re not being a good enough wife.”
“You’re not a good enough neighbor.”
“You’re not a good enough friend.”
“You’re not a good enough pastor’s wife.”

The accuser’s words rang loud in my mind and I was reminded of 1 Peter 5:8, that “the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” The heaviness in my heart felt like a ton of bricks. I asked the Lord to help me remind myself of truth from His Word, fighting the onslaught of lies from the enemy.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him.” Ephesians 1:4-5

My righteousness is not found in my performance, or the praise of man, or meeting everyone’s expectations (including my own!). My righteousness is found in Christ alone. He accepts me and loves me just as I am… imperfections and all. I can rest in knowing that because of Christ, I no longer have to fear not being good enough.

God’s Word has a way of lifting me out of the miry clay. Rehearsing the promises of Scripture is like medicine to my weary soul. What truth to you need to focus on today?
